| Australianconstitution.com.au is neither pro nor anti the concept of a crowned republic or an elected/appointed president of a republic. Papers have been submitted to put forward irrefutable facts and hopefully to dispel any myths. AustralianConstitution.com.au is motivated in part by the following:-
“We can only participate effectively in our democracy if we have the information we need to make informed choices that affect us. On that basis, our democracy needs a lot of work on many fronts.”
“The key to restoring faith in our democracy is ensuring that Australians understand it.”
And also the words of the independent and highly respected UK journalist, the late W.F. Deedes (Lord Deedes) when he was sent from the UK to cover the 1999 Referendum who wrote
While there is no obvious public action being promoted at the moment to promote another referendum with regard to Australia becoming a republic, the above quotes are the inspiration for the creation of australianconstitution.com.au by a leading member of our community, Richard Allert AO FCA, an Australian republic supporter, and a member of the Australian Republican Movement; and Philip Gibson, a member of and retired volunteer for Australians for Constitutional Monarchy. Both agree that civics education is fundamental to an informed electorate at any future referendum.
The 20 papers linked here have been submitted to put forward irrefutable facts and hopefully to dispel any myths.
According to a 1994 ALP Government Civics Expert Group's report, alarmingly 82% of Australians know little or nothing about the Australian Constitution. The need therefore for verifiable and accurate information is great indeed if we are to make an informed vote if and when necessary.
Unfortunately we do not have the time at the moment to establish a blog and ask anyone wishing to comment on aspects of this website to write to:-
